"A Late Spring Afternoon" depicts a mountain waterfall cutting through a rocky canyon. This oil painting captures the spring meltwater as it cascades down between stone walls, with evergreens standing tall along the edges and mountains rising in the distance.
The fallen logs crossing the gorge show nature's own architecture—creating natural bridges where trees have come to rest after their time standing sentinel. Many who visit such places remember the sensory experience: the sound of rushing water, the cool mist rising from below, and the contrast between flowing water and unyielding stone shaped over centuries.
This piece continues my study of Canadian wilderness landscapes. The painting invites viewers to connect with their own memories of these powerful places, where the essential elements of water, rock, and forest come together in scenes that remind us of nature's enduring patterns and quiet strength.
