ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint landscapes that focus on transitional conditions near the end of the day, when colour and light shift across water, snow, and mountain terrain. These brief moments often alter familiar places, revealing structures of shadow, reflection, and surface that are less apparent during the brightness of midday.

Working in oil, I use the landscape as a way to examine how changing atmospheric conditions shape our perception of place. The paintings are not intended as literal descriptions of specific locations but develop from repeated encounters with particular environments and times of day.

My thinking about landscape is informed in part by ecological writing and eco-psychology, including the work of Wendell Berry and Joanna Macy, which explore relationships between people and the natural world.

The paintings are developed in the studio from photographs and sketches made during time spent in these landscapes, allowing the work to focus on atmosphere, colour relationships, and spatial structure.
